Association.) ' , MOTUEKA, August 27. 7h e Australian hockey team defeated. Motufeka by, 4: goals to nil in a rather scrappy game.. Tfie combination improved towards the end, but the forwards lacked precision and the; fielding was poor. The match was played in. glorious weather on a ground considered to be the best so far played on by the visitors, yet the team was not_ seen to such advantage as against Nelson. Tue local team rose to the occasion, and the for"wards were seen in many good movements, but lacked finish. Australia had a. two goals’ lead at the end of the first spell. Allen received from a free hit. and beat the goalie with a low ground shot and the same player was rewarded later for following in and scoring oft the bounce.. In the second half Allen received a high pass and turned the ball into the net Milner worked his side into a good position and passed to Minto, who dashed in and netted. , ■ _ The Australian goalkeeper, . Watson, proved safe. Elliott and Irvine . were the best of the backs, and Allen, after a shaky start, and Milner were the pick of the forwards. For the local team the centre-forward, Gibbs, an exKouth Island representative, .was one tlm^outstancir ing players on the field. Whitwell was the next best forward, and Ferguson - and Webster were hard working halves. ;
