MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE The weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the Otago Football Association was held last evening, Mr A. Sharp being in the chair. The referee (Mr A. for the representative match between Southland and Otago juniors, played on Saturday, wrote explaining that he had played extra time at the request of both captains, as the players were keen to hold the cup for the first time of playing for it. The chairman pointed out that the duration of play provided by the rules was 90 minutes. Saturday’s match was an interprovincial one, for which a cup had been played for for the first time, and no rules had been drawn up .to govern the trophy. In reply .to Mr Wyness,. who asked whether'the referee had The right to overrule the Management Committee, the chairman stated he (the referee) did not do so, but, in playing extra time, was no doubt influenced by the fact that both captains desired to continue. The referee is in charge of the game oh the field The letter was received and the referee’s explanation accepted. A letter was received from the KoslynWakari Club asking the association to use its influence towards having Ellis Bark placed in a condition to enable First Division matches to be played on it next season.—The request was noted and referred to the Grounds Committee. The committee received a deputation from the Northern Club, consisting of Messrs J. C. Rigby and T. Ruddiman, in respect to a report of last week’s meeting of the association which appeared in one of the local papers, Exception was taken to the fact that Northern had failed to make provision for the entertainment of the Thistle Club, which played Northern in the Chatham Cup game. Mr Rigby pointed out that the players' had. been entertained by the Scottish Societies on Saturday night, and in addition the Northern Club had also arranged for an oil Ting on the Sunday. He had arranged for six cars, but through unfortunate circumstances only four turned put, and when he arrived at the hotel he found there were 17 passengers to he provided for, atid it was then arranged with Messrs Sharp and Simpson to hire extra taxis. Mr Rigby further ponited out that the Northern Club had, always assisted, the association in making the stay of visiting teams enjoyable,' but unfortunately from the report to which exception was taken the'impression might be gathered by the public that the Northern Club had not done its duty. He also brought up the matter of Jones’s transfer from First to Second Division, and stated that the Northern Club had no intention in asking to have Jones regraded of endeavouring to win the Second Grade .Cup, but. the selectors were sorting but the best possible team to represent the club in the Chatham Cup game. In fact, stated Mr Rigby, the selectors had taken over two hoprs to make, the final selection. His desire. in coming before the committee was to have the club put “ on side ” with the public. Mr T. Ruddiman said there was no obligation on any club to entertain another visiting Team.' When Northern had travelled to 'Wellington it. had not been entertained. He was a .life member of the Northern Club; as well as president of the association, and he felt very much what had been reported against the club, and he wished to see the position cleared up. He claimed there had been no abuse of the transfer rule, though it had been in force for'2s;years.' Referring to the matter of the taxis, he stated that if it was a reflection on the Northern Club he and Mr Rigby would see it baid. . ’ , The chairman assured the deputation that the committee had no prejudice against the Northern Club. The members endeavoured to control the game to, tlje best of their ability and there had been no intention of creating the impression that the club had displayed unsportemanship in the matters mentioned...
