FORESTERS

The fortnightly meeting of Court Pride of the Leith was held last Wednesday, when there was a large attendance of members, with C.R, Bro. W. Dillon in the chair. The meeting opened in mourning in memory of Bro. J. E. Wilson, who had passed away suddenly at' Lauder. A motion of sympathy with the family and relatives was carried in the customary manner. In'collection with the circular from the local division of the B.MA, increasing the medical lists, it was resolved that , the court adhere to the presept practice. Invitations were accepted from Courts Saint Andrew’s and Pride of Dunedin. The treasurer and P.C.R. Bro. W. J. Duncan, delegates, gave' their report on the meeting with the representatives of the' B.M.A. It was resolved to present £5 from the Benevolent Fund to assist the widow of a deceased member and to refer the case to the- executive for further relief. The auditors, P.D.C.R. Bro. R. S. Vercoe and P.C.R.’s Bros. Duncan and Cockburn, submitted the- balance sheet ' for the. past half-year. The position was most satisfactory, all the funds being in a healthy condition. The membership stood at 914, an increase of 12 members. Two new members were admitted. After the meeting a card competition was held. There was a good attendance of members at the last meeting of Court Bruce, Milton, when C.R. Bro. Lambert presided. The C.R. extended a welcome to P.C.R. Bro. H. J. Murdoch, of Dannevirke, and Sister M. J. Mulijjne was also welcomed on her return. An invitation was received from, the local officers of the Salvation Army to attend church parade m connection with their jubilee celebrations. The invitation was declined owing to the fact that the court was. holding its own centenary celebrations at the same time. A copy of the proceedings transacted at i the last annual meeting of the Dominion Council of Friendly Societies was received from the district office. It was decided to hold a parade to. St. John’s Church on the evening : of August 5 in connection with the centenary celebrations. At the conclusion of the meeting a social evening was held. There was an attendance ot over 80 members of the court and friends, also members of Loyal Victoria Lodge, M.U., to whom a complimentary evening was tendered. An excellent musical programme was contributed by the Milton Orchestra, under the baton of P.C.R. Bro. W. Kennedy. P.C.R. Bro. J. Begg moved a vote of thanks •to the conductor and the orchestra. Bro. Kennedy and N.G. _ Sister E. Findlay replied. The remainder of the evening was spent in dancing, for which music was supplied by Mr W. Taylor, with Bro. Lambert as M.C. The fortnightly meeting of the Court King Edwarcra Pride was held on Thursday night, when there was a good attendance of members, with C.R. Bro. Clarke in the. chair. Invitations were accepted from Courts Robin Hood, Pride of Leith, and Saint Andrew’s. After a long disr cussion on the proposal from the 8.M.A., it was decided to oppose the_ suggestion put forward by the local division to increase the medical list. The district secretary (Rro. J. K. Macfie) paid an official visit. The district secretary presented the half-yearly balance sheet of the court, and reported oh the audit. The figures ' showed that the court was in a solid I position. Bro. J. K. Macfie gave an interesting address on the Order in general and the court in particular. The balance I sheet was adopted. Four new members ! were admitted, and the evening closed with | a. dance. The membership now stands at j 35°. • ■ . Pride of the Port and Sherwood Forest. | Invitations wore accepted from Courts | Pride of the Leith, Sherwood Forest, and j Progress. The visitors were „ welcomed I by the, C.R. Bro. A. Fraser, and. all , juvenile courts responded, while P.C.R. j Bro. Bennett replied on behalf of the j parent court. After the meeting parents (■ and friends of members were admitted j ami a social evening was spent. Sonus j were contributed by C.S. Bro. L. J. Net- : son, with Bro. J. K. Macfie at the piano. I Prizes won in competitions during the j year were presented by I.P.D.C.R. Bro. i ; R. S.-Vercoe to the following winners: Bros.' A. Fraser, W. J. Mercer, D. Fraser, | N; Fraser, J. Douglas, 6. W. David, R. L. j D. Vercoe, R. Dixon, S. Gaudin, K. W. j Bills, and D. D. Thompson. The Member- | ship Cup was won .by Bro. A. Fraser, ‘ ( who. also gained the medal presented by , Bro. John Swan.
