RATIONED TEACHERS
SALARY INCREASE GRANTED LODGING ALLOWANCE RESTORED (From 60s Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, July ,31. The rates of salary and the lodging allowance of teachers employed by '.lie Education Department under the'.rationing scheme will be raised for the halfyear beginning to-morrow (August I). An announcement to this effect was made to-night by the, Minister of Education (Mr R, Masters). The annual salaiy rate will be increased to, £72 and the lodging allowance of £36 a year will be restored to those who are compelled to live away from home to carry out their duties.
Earlier in the month the Minister said he was determined to see that the avail able money was utilised to the fullest extent in the interests of the rationed teachers and . that he was giving tne question his close personal attention. Mr Masters said to-night that he had just completed a full investigation of the position and he was very pleased to be able to announce better conditions.
