TENSE SITUATION

HERR VON PAPEN'S SPEECH CRITICISM OF REGIME (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) BERLIN, June 20. A lively conversation to-day between Herr Hitler and Herr von Papen failed to clear the somewhat tense situation created by Herr von Papen'e speech. It is believed that the conflict is too acute to settle directly; consequently v Herr Hitler and Herr von Papen will shortly visit President' Hindenburg at his country home. -Herr Hitler has not concealed his strong annpyance at Herr von Papen's act. Apparently Herr von Papen is not impressed, as he deliberately intended to create a stir by criticising what he and others regard as the present system's shortcomings. It is understood that Herr Hitler agreed with some of Herr von Papen's utterances, though he disagreed with the method of expression and the circumstances in which they were enunciated. Action could not be taken against Herr von Papen, because President Hindenburg saw the text of the speech beforehand and telegraphed to Herr von Papen his congratulations afterwards. —Times" Cable. The full text of Herr von Papen's speech is printed by the publishers of "Germania," the Roman Catholic paper with which Herr von Papen is associated, in.pamphlet form. In addition to the declaration made on June 19, he also declared: " Great men are not made by propaganda, but' grow through their deeds. The belief that a nation could be united by terror should be rejected."
