THE FREE STATE ARMY
PROVISIONS OF THE- BILL OPERATION LIMITED. DUBLIN, June 20. The Free State Senate, by 22 votes to 12, limited the operation of the Army Bill to November 30 in order to avoid the risk of abuses. The force will consist of 15,000 men, comprising all the army units. The first line will comprise men between the ages of 18 and 22, enlisted for 12 years. After five years these will serve in the second line. The initial training will be from 14 to 20 days, supplemented by weekly drills, week-end camps, and annual training. The second line will comprise men under 45. It will attend only weekly parades, camps and test mobilisation. The third line will be men of recognised national service, and will be called out only in a national emergency.
