AMATEUR SWIMMING

MEETING.OF OTAGO CENTRE. A meeting, of the Otago Swimming Centre was held last night,, and was attended, by Messrs D..C. Bannatyne (in the chair), W. Williams, A.,Findlay, M. Taylor, R. Stackhouse, B. Kerr, E. G. James, R.,Baker, I. Turnbull, D. Pickard, D. Thomson, E. C Isaacs, I. Laing, A. Greig. ' - ' ■ .! The secretary reported having written to- the secretary of the Cromwell Club forwarding particulars of the procedure necessary should the club desire to affiliate with the centre and giving details of the cost to the club of an appearance, by the visiting Australian swimmers.—The secretary's' action was approved. The secretary .stated that he had received replies from the Alexandra, Cromwell, Oamaru, and Asliburton Clubs and the South Canterbury and Southland Centres, all of which had guaranteed to take appearances of the Australians, and there was every probability of several other centres \ and clubs coming in. He had received a letter from Mr Dudley Helluvich ' (who would act as manager to the swimmers) that Clark and Dickcl would definitely be available for a tour of the South Island in November and December.—lt was left to the secretary and the treasurer (Mr E.. G. James) to make, the preliminary arrangements and map out an. itinerary, for the toiir. A letter was received from the secretary of the Otago Primary Schools! Sports Association advising that as a matter of policy it was unable to/accept the centre's offer of a trophy to be competed for at the association's annual swimming carnival. The association appreciated the offer, but it had a fixed rule that no individual awards should be given at these meetings, and. moreover, it already had sufficient trophies for its'purposes.—Received.
