PORT CHALMERS NEWS

HOLY TRINITY CHURCH The annual, meeting of parishioners of; the Holy Trinity Church, Port Chalmers, was held recently, the vicar (Rev. A. B. Pywell) presiding. The vicar's reportexpressed appreciation of the, co-operation of the vestry and church people' generally. The vestry report indicated, a■ year of careful- consideration of church affairs generally. Regret was expressed at the. death of the Rev; W. H.": Roberts, and. it Ayas anticipated that the! church would .prosper under the new vicar. As regards finance, the year!s income had been made sufficient, although , extra expenses ..for improvements already effected had been practically met out of income. The duplex scheme, so far, indicated a much greater, support, for which the vestry-was thankful.. ■■' / Following, these reports, representatives of various church, societies', gave a short summary of the past year's work. These were'all encouraging in tone,: and had recommendations attached) which in each case were adopted.. • The vestry elected, was as follows: Vicar's warden, Mr. R. A. Ward; people's warden, Mr'D. Forsyth; secretary, Mr D. Forsyth; treasurer, Mr P. W. Jenks; Vestrymen—Captain Page, Messrs Laley, Reeves, Leftwich, Verrall, and- Hudson. Miss Davis was elected duplex secretary and Mr D. M'Cowatt auditor.

Captains David Kee and/F. Pearce, of the Church. Army Column, arrived at Port Chalmers last Monday for the purpose of conducting a fortnight's mission. On Monday evening a reception service was held in Holy Trinity .'Church before a large congregation. Services, of a special nature have been held during the week. The first portion will close at evensong on Sunday. -During their stay Captain Kee is at the vicarage and Capr tain Pearce is the guest of Mr and Mrs P. W. Jenks. ,
