(Peb United Press Association.) HAMILTON, June 10. Frank Robert Baker, aged 21, who escaped from the Waikeria Borstal Institution on May 31 in company with B. C. Cole, who is still at liberty, was charged with the conversion of a motor car, escaping from prison, and the theft of various articles. The police stated that the accused was influenced by his companion and had previously borne a good character while at the institution, where he assisted in the milking shed. On the charge of car conversion Baker was sentenced to three months’ hard labour, for escaping from Waikeria he was sentenced to two years’ reformative detention, to commence on the expiration of his former sentence, and on the theft charges to three months’ imprisonment, concurrent with the previous sentences. WELLINGTON, June 10. A bankruptcy sitting was adjourned sine die to-day in the case of Stanley Odlin, a clerk, who, with others, formed a company known as Timbers, Ltd., which subsequently went into liquidation. The total debts wore shown ns £3554 and the assets £sl, leaving a deficiency of £3503. Additional evidence was heard at today’s sittings of the Dairy Industry Coinmission. In the morning Mr T. G. Vincent, a director of the Levin Dairy Company, appeared before the commission. The afternoon witnesses were Messrs S. MTntosh and P. Davies, who represented the Bush Dairy Co-operative Association. CHRISTCHURCH, June 11. The Christchurch. Tramway Board decided to-day to limit in some degree the use of weekly passes instituted some months ago. These passes are transferable, and as was stated by members of the board at a meeting to-day, the prices charged for them has been fixed on an estimate of the extent to which they would be used. Actual experience shows that they have been used much more th<in nils estimated. The board has decided to continue the issue of passes at the same prices, but they are not transferable, and the person to whom a pass is issued must sign it. ASHBURTON, June 11. The first snow of the season fell on Saturday night, an inch falling in the borough. It was correspondingly heavier towards the hills, where a fall was experienced on Saturday morning.
