MILK FOR CHILDREN
A NATIONAL SCHEME SUPPORT FOR DUNEDIN PROPOSAL. (Special to Daily Times.) AUCKLAND, June 11, Support of the proposal made in. Dunedin that the manufacturers should inform the Government that they would approve of a national scheme for supplying a daily ration of milk or cream to school children was given at a meeting of the General Committee of the Auckland Manufacturers’ Association. A letter from the Manufacturers’ Federation stated that it was suggested that the purchase by the State of milk or cream for this purpose would be preferable to any other form of financial assistance which could be given to the dairying industry. Mr Tackle, who is a member of the Auckland Metropolitan Milk Council, commented that the practice of selling milk from public counters was growing in Australia. “It is likely that a similar development will occur in Auckland in spite of the increased prices,” he added.
