PRESBYTERY OF CLUTHA
81-MONTHLY MEETING The bi-monthly meeting of the Presbytery of Clutha was held at Balclutha on Friday. , There were present—-the Revs. T. Twcedic (moderator), R. Blair, F. M'Donald, A. M'Neur, C. Mackenzie, J. S. Strang, A. R. Chisholm, J. J. Bates, T. Knight, and H. H. Barton, Messrs A. B. Stewart, A. Ashwin, T. Corry, W. I. Clarke, J. Holland, R. Sutherland, D. Blair, I. Dent, W. Leslie, and 0, Grey (elders). The Dominion secretary wrote advising that the semi-jubilee of the Busy Bees Movement was taking place this year. This organisation had raised £12,000 for missions during the 25 years. It was agreed to'celebrate the fifth Sunday in July as “ Busy Bee Sunday.” It was reported that Mr A. F. Shaw had been appointed as student assistant to carry on the work of the Beaumont Hall Mission as from June 1. Tentative arrangements were made for the induction of the Rev. F. B. Bickerstaff to the charge of Stirling-Inchclutha on July 3. Appreciative' reference was made to the work done by Mr A. Ashwin, home missionary, who has been supplying the parish for over a year. The Rev. H. H. Barton submitted proposals fer the consideration of the presbytery with regard to ministerial tenure and transference. After discussion, further consideration was deferred till next meeting, when it is hoped concrete proposals will be ready for submission to the assembly. The Rev. R. Blair, acting-convener of the Youth Committee, reported on the successful Y.M.B.C. camp held at Waitahuna in May, and on his motion it was agreed to express the thanks of the presbytery to those who have carried on these camps for the past four years. Air . Blair made reference to the highly successful District Committee and Sunday School Association meetings, and outlined a scheme for a forward movement amongst the youth of the presbytery. . The presbytery expressed its hearty approval of the statement drawn up by the Rev. R. N. Alley on “The Church and Economics,” and agreed to send it on to the' assembly’s Public, Questions Committee- as an expression of its mind ou the subject.
