MUSIC TEACHERS’ SOCIETY

Mr C. A. Martin presided over a meeting of the executive of the Otago Music Teachers’ Society, which was attended by Mieses E. Yorston, 15. Favell, M. Martin, Messrs A. W. Lilly, M. Scherek, .i. T. Leech, J. C. Easton, and Dr V. E. Galway. Correspondence was received from the general secretary regarding the action necessary to change the name of the society to the Music Teachers’ Association of New Zealand, Otago branch. It was decided to accede to the request from the Dunedin Competitions Society to select music for the 1035 festival. It was reported that the eleventh annual conference of Dominion musicians would he held at Christchurch in January, 1935. It is suggested that concerts similar to those given in Dunedin during the conference last ,year be held during the sitting of conference. A letter was received from Mr Frederick Moore, who was back in England after his visit last year when acting as examiner for the Royal Academy. Mr Moore expressed great pleasure in having been able to return to his old home town, and hoped to return in a year or bo tor a longer stay. Further details were arranged in connection with the evening to be devoted to the performance of works by composers at present resident in the Otago district to be given in about three months’ time.
