THOUSANDS OF LORRY DRIVERS BATTLE WITH THE POLICE. NEW YORK, May 21. (Received May 22, at 9 p.m.) A message from Minneapolis states that a strike of 6000 lorry operators in an attempt to tie up the city’s food supplies developed into a pitched battle to-day with 2000 police and special deputies repeatedly charging the strikers with batons. The strikers responded with clubs and brickbats, and many were injured. A Congressman, Mr Francis Shoemaker, was arrested for aiding the strikers.

Thirty-five thousand building workers struck in sympathy with the lorrymen, and ,a general strike throughout the city is threatened.
