STUDENTS’ RIOTS

BELGRADE UNIVERSITY. PROTEST AGAINST NEW DECREE (United .Press Association.) . . . (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, May 22, (Received May 23, at 0.16 a.m.) The Manchester Guardian’s Belgrade correspondent says there have been serious student disorders at Belgrade University as a protest against a new decree which prohibits students’ political organisations. Three hundred students, mostly Communists, barricaded themselves in the building after smashing furniture and windows, and burning books. The police were called in, but were forced to retreat under a shower of tables, chairs, and inkpots. The students declare that they can hold out for three days because they have sufficient food.
