Airs Alunro read to the meeting part of the address given by Dr Alartin Tweed, medical adviser to the society, at the recent conference. Dr Tweed, counselled all branches to adhere strictly to the aims and objects of the society as originally drawn up by the founder, Sir Truby King, in which it had been laid down definitely that the nurses’ services would be given gratis to any member of the community desiring such service. Referring to the criticism recently levelled at the society s work Dr Tweed said that members of the different Governments had openly stated that the Plunket Society was ren-dering-the cheapest form of social service, that every pound granted to the society Was well spent, and full value was received in return. The sentiments expressed by Dr Tweed were wholeheartedly endorsed by . the members present, who expressed their conviction that to introduce even a nominal charge would be to defeat the purposes of the society. They considered, however, that an appeal should be made to all benefiting from the society’s work to assist in a voluntary manner wherever possible. AIONTHLY AIEETING.
