SYDNEY'S MUNICIPAL RATE.
THE SAME AS LAST YEAR.
SYDNEY, March 14.
The City Council fixed the municipal rate at in the pound, the same as last yeaf. On an assessment of £46,092,000 the rate will yield £804,000, leaving an estimated deficit of £93,000.
ELDERLY MAN'S DEATH.
TRAPPED IN BUSH FIRE,
ADELAIDE, March 14.
John Weymouth (75). was trapped by a bush fire in Coromandel Valley and burnt to death. The body was found by his son. A dozen other fire fighters narrowly escaped. THE PETROL TAX. NO REMISSION THIS YEAR. CANBERRA, March 14. Federal Ministers state that there is no prospect of a remission of the petrol tax this year. STRANDED COLLIER SOLD. SYDNEY, March 14. (Received March 14, at 11 p.m.) The stranded collier Bealiba was sold by auction and realised £75. The vessel is still intact owing to the calm seas, but she has a more pronounced list. The Orient liner Orford sailed from Sydney with the Australian Davis Cup team and the New South Wales members of the test team on board. Other players will join the vessel in Melbourne, while Bradman, who is at present in Adelaide, will go aboard there. Gay scenes were witnessed on the wharf.
