THE SEXES COMPARED

MANY MARKED DIFFERENCES MEN MORE IMAGINATIVE. LONDON, March 13. Differences between men and women revealed by exhaustive laboratory tests were described in a lecture by Professor Cyril Burt. He said that although women were interested in household arts nearly all labour devices were invented by men. There was no clear difference between the sexes in general intelligence. Comparing women with men, be said their skin was twice as sensitive. They could endure more pain, and were quicker to detect the presence of odours. They tended to be more shortsighted than long-sighted, were more dexterous in finer movements, and had better memories.

Men had more sense of movement and position, and were quicker to detect the finer differences in similar odours., They had almost a monopoly of blindness, were much more prone to colour blindness, were more dexterous in coarser movement, and more imaginative.

Dr Burt is professor of psychology at University. College, Oxford. He was formerly professor of education in the University of London.
