ST. ANDREW’S SOCIETY
A social evening was held in Wilson Hall on Monday evening, when a large gathering congregated to inaugurate the formation of the St. Andrew’s Society of Otago. The following office-bearers were appointed Patron, the Rev. Hugh Graham (Mosgiel); president, Mr D. Minnock; vice-president, Mr James Brown; secretary and treasurer, Mr H. Bell (Abbotsford) ; committee—Mr J. Calderwood, G. Yardley, R. Frood, H. Gardner, Watson, sen., R. M'Skimming. J. Simpson, S. Jamieson, Misses S. Reid. M. Simpson, B. Cdirns. It was decided to form a dramatic section of the society. The formation of this section was of primary interest owing to the fact that it offered unexampled opportunities and facilities to perpetuate Scottish traditional art and music. j The following artists contributed to the success of the evening'Miss Hazel Walker, “Ye Banks and Braes ” ami Cornin’ Thro’ the Rye ”; Mr J. Wilson, “ The Cameron Men ” and “ Success to Scotland”; and Mr P. Robb, “When I Get Back Again to Bonnie Scotland and “Wee Hoose ’Mang the Heather.’’ A dance was held, the music being supplied by Mr Donaldson’s band, with Mr Mason as ban joist and Miss Matheson as accompanist.
