'MONTHLY MEETING

Cr T. M. Sail (chairman) _ preaided over the monthly: meeting of the Talen River Trust yesterday. ,Grs W. J- Marshall, James W.F. Johnson, R. B. Tennent, S. Snell, H.-W. Wilson, and C. Findlay were present. ; ■ REPORTS. ~ ' The inspector reported that the following work had been completed during the month :-Lee Creek had' been cleaned from the junction of the mew channel to Heenan's (.180 chains). The river bans at Blair’s property had .been repaired. Marshall’s gang had finished cleamng the new cut (83 chains). Upper Duck Creek, had been cleaned from Momona road (ou chains). Surfacing had been earned out from Momona to Allanton on the river bank. The box at Smith’s property required attention.—The report was adopted. -'“'v';-'; v'/- 5 The Works Committee did not tame ,a report. The chairman explained that .in the circumstances it had not been possible to present a report,—Noted. CORRESPONDENCE. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Dunedin, applied for a remission of arrears of rates on a property they intended offering, for sale.—A reply to be sent that no remission could bemade. ‘ D. J. Cullen (Momona) applied for a supply of gravel.—He was granted permission to take gravel at 2s 6d per yard from the stack at the- contour; no charge to be made if gravel was to be taken from the stream. . ■. ■ ... _ The city electrical engineer, Dunedin, asked the trust to remove the obstruction caused by willow trees on the Main South road.—The writer to be informed that his board could have permission to cut the trees complained of. ' v f G. R. Stirling, Allanton, on behalf of relief workers employed by the trust, asked that additional time be granted them.—lt was' resolved to reply that on account of the seasonal! work at present, on offer the application could not be granted. , )■; CLASSIFICATION APPEALS.

In response to a visit from Messrs Duncan and MacGregor, solicitors to the trust, it was decided that the clerkadvise all appellant* against the classifications of the date fixed for the hearing. Apparently some of the ratepayers concerned did not know their exact position in this m.atter. THE FENCING OF ENDOWMENTS. Replying to'an inquiry by Mr J. A. G. Shaw regarding the fencing of lands leased from the trust by him, and the whereabouts of the adjoining lessee not being known/ the trust agreed to assist the applicant by guaranteeing to pay haU-cost of the wire and 2s 6d per chain towards, the cost of erection, this cost to be passed on to the adjoining if_the latter took up. his portion of the erectiomof the fence, no agreement on the trust 8 pari was required. Mr Shaw also mentioned that six or seven acres of hisleaseholdl was under water, This was held over for the trust’s inspection. RATES.

The necessary resolution giving authority to impose -the 10 per cent, penalty on overdue rates was passed. The trust granted the application of a ratepayer in the Outraih district for the remission of the 10 per cent, penalty on half of his rates, in view of the special circumstances of the case and of the fact that the rates were now paid. . Crs Ball and Tennent were appointed a sub-committee to consider the matter of outstanding rates. GENERAL,
