Adjutant D. Blincoe, of Sydenham, has been appointed' officer in charge of the local Salvation Amy corps, as successor to Ensign M. Rawcliffe, who has been transferred to ■ Queenstown. Lieutenant Banks, of the Auckland district, has been appointed as< assisting officer. Mr' J. C. Vidal (Milton), leftvby last night’s express for Lyttelton, en -route Tor Wellington, to join the steamer lonic, sailing for England on Wednesday. At Wellington Mr Vidal will join his 'sister, who has been: spending . a few months’ holiday in New Zealand.and^ is returning to England, accompanying her brother, on the homeward journey. .< Mr Vidal expects to. be absent .about. six months. He will travel to England by the Panama route, and intends to return by the Suez rotite. A keen cricketer, he is looking forward to witnessing at least one of the England-Australia cricket test matchesi QUEEN CARNIVAL. The position of flags at the Coronation Hall were changed this morning, indicating that the “Age” queen candidate (Mrs A. Hall) is leading in the Municipal Brass Band’s Queen Carnival. LADIES' BOWLING. A rink from Milton Ladies’Bowling Club accompanied the local club’s team to Lawrence on Saturday afternoon to play a match against the Lawrence lady bowlers, and was defeated by two points. Scores (Milton names first) Mesdames Cameron, Moore, Miss Cray, Mrs Davidson 16, Mesdames Parkhill, Smyth, Miss Hopkins, Mrs MTntosh 18. CALEDONIAN SOCIETY’S SPORTS. The Bruce woollen mills have nominated a team for the interhouse. ladies competition at the Otago Caledonian Society’s sports meeting next Saturday afternoon. In the teams’ events the woollen mills will be represented by Misaeg E. M. Kenny (captain), I. and L. Moms, B. Kreft, M. Lillicrap (2), A. Smith, and E. Powley. Some of these will also compete in the ladies’ individual events. TORO HIGH SCHOOL. The monthly report submitted by the 'headmaster (Mr A. Thomson) to a meeting of the Toko High School Committee showed that the average attendance at the school in the Primary Department to the end of February totalled 206.2. Twenty-three girls and 13 boys k had leit since the end of last term. Eight girls and 13 boys had joined since the beginning of the new term in, February, making the present roll number in the Primary Department 110 girls and 111 boys. In the Secondary Department the average attendance wag 66.3. Ten girls and 12 bovs had left, whilst 16 girls and 11 boys had joined the Secondary Department, making the roll number 38 girls and 30 boys. ; BOWLING CHAMPIONSHIP. The South Otago Bowling Association’s champion of champions Singles competition was played on Stirling Green on Saturday. Five clubs were represented, and the competition was won by J. Prescott (Kaitangata), who defeated J. Cuff (Milton) in the final by 12 points to 3. The conditions were that each player should meet, and the results were:— First Round. —W. Jefferson (Stirling) 24, R. Cessford (Balclutha) 12; J. Cun (Milton) 37, B, Harraway (Benhar) 7: P. Prescott (Kaitangata), a bye. Second Round.—Prescott 22. Harraway 12; Cuff 20. Cessford 15; Jefferson, a bye Third Round.—Jefferson 17, Prescott 12; Cessford 19, Harraway 15; Cuff, a bye. Fourth Round. —Jefferson 24, Harraway 9; Prescott 21, Cuff 14; Cessford. a bye. Fifth Round. —Cuff 19, Jefferson 9; Prescott 15, Cessford 9; Harraway, a bye. At the conclusion of the fifth round Prescott, Jefferson, and Cuff had three wins each. To finalise the competition on one day only eleven heads were played in the semi-final and final. Semi-final. —Prescott 11, Jefferson 9; Cuff, a bye. Final.—Prescott 12, Cuff 3.
