The discovery of a murderer by a single hair was lately described by the chief constable at Nottingham, Captam A. Popkess, when dealing with the use of the microscope in crime detection in an address to the local Rotary Club. In a murder case the police examined a hair found near the scene. From_ a microscopic examination of this single hair certain deductions were made. One end, of the hair had been cut sharply; the root end was wasting; the hair was grey, and it had a certain number of dark pigmentary marks. From this it was deduced: (1) That the murderer had recently had bis hair cut; (2) he was approximately between the ages of 40 and 50; (3) he was a dark man going grey; and (4) he was a fat man. When the man was eventually arrested it was found that he fitted this description.
