MINISTER OF EDUCATION
VISIT TO BLACKS SCHOOL.. (Special to Daily Times.)' ■ ."> OPHIR, February 22. The Minister of Education (Mr I*. Masters) visited the Blacks School this m6rning, accompanied by Messrs J. Wal- ✓ lace (chairman), G. W. Carrington (secretary), D. C. Cameron, E.. I Morgan and J. Shepherd, members of the Otago Education Board, and.also the member* of the Ophir School Committee. The Minister addressed the 37 children for nine minutes., He, commended the correspondence school,, which in the recent; examinations , had, secured 48 proficiency passes (100 per cent.) and six matriculation passes out of 12 entered. The Minister asked how many came three miles-to school, how many brought their lunch,; and what the children generally expected on ,an occasion like that. The Minister, with the headmaster and committee consenting, -declared a school holiday till to-morrow.
