THE CONTINENT GRIPPED MILES OF CANALS FROZEN. LONDON, December 14. (Received Dec. 14, at 9 p.m.) Reports of intense cold have been received from all parts of the Continent. In Venice there were 18 inches of enow, Trieste experienced a blizzard, and in Poland several people were frozen to death. In Switzerland snow is falling heavily. In northern France hundreds of miles of canals are frozen. In Vienna a cake at a wedding party was broken with an axe and the guests thawed portions by the fire.
