DISTURBING POLITICAL MEETINGS

CHARGE AGAINST PUBLIC SERVANT. (Per United I’rers Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, December 14. A special court of inquiry was held jesterday before Mr H. A. Young, S.M.j to take evidence concerning charges made against .a junior officer of the Public Trust Office that during the Lyttelton by-elec-tion campaign he wag guilty of conduct that constituted a breach of regulation 32 of the Public Service regulations by disturbing political meetings, and in particular a meeting Addressed by Mr J. G. Coates at Lyttelton on September 12. Counsel appeared for the Public Service Commissioner and for the officer concerned. The inquiry was held in camera, and after a number of witnesses had given evidence, the magistrate intimated that he would forward his report to the Public Service Commissioner.
