ALLEGED SLANDER
ACTION BY SCHOOLMASTER £SO DAMAGES CLAIMED, (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, December 14. An incident at the October meeting of the Aranui Burgesses’ Association resulted in an action for alleged slander being heard in the court this morning. The plaintiff, Victor Herbert Thomas Brenmer, schoolmaster, claimed £SO damages from James Taylor Dickie, a salesman. The plaintiff alleged ‘ that at the meeting the defendant falsely and maliciously spoke and published of the plaintiff, who was treasurer of the Social Committee, the following words: . “If it is any information for you I have seen Mrßremner’s books and they are not in order.” The plaintiff alleged that tnes defendant laid great stress on the word “ not.” The magistrate gave judgment for the defendant, saying that he was satisfied the occasion on which the words complained of were spoken was covered by partial privilege.
