THE AIR FORCE

STRENGTH TO BE INCREASED FOUR NEW SQUADRONS (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, December 12. The Yorkshire Post’s aeronautical editor says: “ Provided the international situation is unchanged, the Air Force will be increased by four -squadrons—about 50 planes—in 1934. Three squadrons will be for home defence, and the other for overseas service. Already the home defence force has been reduced by one squadron, which left for Singapore last week. It is significant that aerial strategists regard the Scottish manoeuvres on September 15 as bearing on Singapore’s responsibilities. If an emergency arose in the Far East, the extent to which the defence would be entrusted to the air arm would be dependent on the effectiveness of operations similar to those visualised in the Firth of Forth.”
