FINE BACKSTROKE PERFORMANCE BRITISH EMPIRE RECORD BROKEN. (Per United Press Association.) , CHRISTCHURCH, December 13. In an attempt to lower his own New Zealand record of 6min 27 3-osec_ for the 400 Metres Backstroke at the tepid bath# . to-night, L. J. Moorhouse broke the British Empire record by 6 I-ssec. His tim* wa ß 6min 9 4-ssec, the previous British Empire record being 6mia 16aec.
