STATE FOREST SERVICE

PLANTING OPERATIONS (From Odr Parliamentary Report**.) WELLINGTON, December 13. The planting operations of the State Forest Service in 1933 were briefly surveyed by the Commissioner of State Forests (Mr E.’A. Ransom) in a statement to-day. The Minister said the total area planted in 1933 was 30,705 acres. This fell short of the objective by 5056 acres, the reason for the reduction being a delay in filling the camps. . The area planted, however, was nearly twice as large as in 1932, when the acreage was 15,958. The total area planted to date in all the State plantations was 394,184 acres. New areas planted in the different State plantations were as follows: —Waipoua, 545 acres; Riverhead, 198 acres; Maramarua, 195 acres; Tairua, 1766 acres; Kaingaroa, 23,141 acres; Erua, 865 acres; Karioi, 1170 acres; Golden Downs, 2288 acres land, 272 acres; minor plantings, 26* acres.
