(Fbom Odb Own Correspondent.)’. 'TAPANUI, December 9. BOROUGH ■COUNCIL. The monthly meeting of the Tapanui Borough Council was held on Monday evening, when there were present the Deputy Mayor (Mr J. L. Wylie) and Crs W. Wright, W. Brims, W. B. Naylor, R._ Duff, D. A. MTtonald, and D. H. Keir An apology was :• received from the Mayor (Mr J. S. Varcbe), who whs absent owing to sickness,V* ■■ : ’ 1 Correspondence. ; Thomas Ball, Highways sentative, advised?that members of the Main Highways Board will visit the. South Island on an inspection tour and be in Tapanui bn Tuesday,'January 23.. The Mayor and chairman of the Works Com. mittee to meet-the board.-; Miss E. F. Quin’s application for an extraordinary water supply for the purpose of'watering stock was granted under the usual conditions. 1 ' ; ..
, . .Reports. v , -, Reports Were presented on behalf of the Wprks, Reserves, and Cemetery Committees, which werb adopted, with the exception of that part of the Cemetery Committee’s report in respect to the erection of a new fence, consideration ■ of which was deferred until the ne?t meeting of the council.
• .. General. . The dog tax. for the year 1934 w.as > fixed at 2s 6d for working sheep dogs and 10s for all other animals, the collars to be procured from the Disabled'Soldiers Products Company. ' ■ - The town clerk Was granted leave wf absence for three Weeks from December 24, 1933. ■ /; V , • . A petition signed by the unemployed m Tapanui' to the certifying officer, Cromwell, as to the conditions pertaining to their work was referred to the council for its report.—The town clerk ■ was authorised to reply to the effect that the grievances mentioned in the petition Were not founded ,oh fact. The council reaffirmed its decision that the unemployed must work their , time at the beginning of each week. The next meeting of the council will *e held on January 22, 1934. ; Accounts amounting to £lO5 ',lßa lOd were passed for payment.
