WAIKOUAITI, December 10,' , CRICKET, The cricket team of the military camp played a game with the local club yesterday, the home team winning by three wickets, losing seven wickets for ’ll3. to the 109 made by the camp team. The camp went in firgt, and Fowler found the boundary several times and retired for 53. Monk made 28. For Waikouaiti, Berry made .16, Lambert Bell . 37, and J. Bradley 10, both the latter being not out. Bowling for the camp, Monk took tw'O wickets for 30, Macau one for 5. and Hobson one ; - -for 4. For Waikouaiti, Lambert Bell took four for 23,0’Halloran one for 2. and. Rendle two for 5. MILITARY CAMP HOSPITALITY. At the invitation of Colonel Nicholls, camp commandant, a large party of residents of the town and district visited the military camp on Friday afternoon, and were entertained at afternoon tea. Colonel Nicholls ,• had been • unexpectedly called to Christchurch, but his chief of staff. Lieutenant-colonel Puttick made an excellent host. . Piloted , and entertained by officers of the camp, little parties of the visitors made their way to the firing ground and were much interested in inspecting and using the various types of machine-guns. All of the permanent staff •—there are 65, men in camp—and officers, warrant officers, and n.c.o.’s have 'all, seen active service. The main object of .the camp is the working out .of a programme for the big annual camp. An especial object of interest is a large-scale diagram of the district, made-in . sand. There are men present from all over .-the- South Island from Blenheim to Invercargill. ■ : RACING CLUB’S INNOVATION. Patrons -of the Waikouaiti Club who make- their New Year’s Day visit a picnic, will; be pleased to learn that the club .intends -to have an electric heater installed, and on race day will provide hot water free of cost. 4
