RED CROSS SOCIETY

The monthly meeting of the Red Crou Society was attended by the Rev. V. G. Bryan King (president), Mrs G. R. Ritchie, Mrs Sydney Neill, Miss Graham, and Messrs C. V. Smith and J. W. Smeaton. A letter was received from Mrs J. Dunn thanking the society for kindness shown to her late brother, Corporal Charles Gullen, while an inmate of the Montecillo Home. The matron and staff were also specially thanked for their devoted attention. A letter was received from the ExGirls’ Association of Secondary Schools offering their services in any way for the benefit of the society.—Received.

Mesdames Ritchie and Neill furnished satisfactory reports for the hospital visitors. The soldier patients bore their pains and sicknesses with great fortitude, and at all times showed a cheerful spirit. They were always pleased to see the visitors. Excellent work was being done by the medical' staffs,, the members o! which , appreciated the society’s active interest in the patients. A report from Matron Macmillan revealed that everything was going along smoothly at the Montecillo Home. During the month three patients had been admitted and four discharged. Those at present receiving treatment numbered 14. Members of the staff continue to give their best services to promote the welfare of the patients. A number of gifts for the benefit of the men have been received, and acknowledgment is made.

For the Home Committee Miss Graham reported that the annual garden fete would be held on December 2. It was left to Mr King and Mr Smeaton to arrange a musical programme and other matters of detail, and seating and advertising were left with Mr Smith and the secretary.
