ARMY EQUIPMENT
TWO IMPORTANT'.. STEPS TANK BRIGADES AND AUTOGIROS. LONDON, November 1. The Daily Telegraph’s military correspondent believes that the army is about to take .two important steps —the revival of the tank.brigade and adoption of the autogiro. Successful tests of the latter as a flying staff car in recent manoeuvres led to the decision to adopt it as a regular part of the army equipment. It is probable that the autogiros will be attached to the army cooperation squadrons. During manoeuvres they will hover close to the ground, where they are difficult to detect by a hostile aeroplane flying above. The autogiro is suitable both for naval and army work, as it can take off from a warship, needing neither a landing deck nor catapult apparatus. Though it is not a true helicopter, for which a prize of £50,000 was offered in 1924 and is still unclaimed, the autogiro possesses the essential qualities of a helicopter.
