CHILDREN’S HEALTH CAMP

I. m • I - ■ On December 1 the Central Mission will commence its relay of health camps for children, and so will assist a Do* minion movement in' the interests of the rising generation. It is recognised that the beneficent agents Nature employs are mighty in the prevention and cure of disease. There is a subtle alchemy in the part played by the sun and air upon tissues by which the weak are inyigorated. > _ Vigorous as the majority of New Zetland children are, the school medical sta* tistics show that some 6 per cent, suffer from defective nutrition. This does not necessarily mean that these children have an inadequate food supply, but it does indicate that they do not attain to physical well-being, and to this group there is undoubtedly a percentage whose failure to progress is due to lack of food, home accommodation, and latent tuberculosis. To give such children a chance to grow strong is a bounden duty of citizenship. Apart from the benefit to the State and society, it makes possible greater happiness for the children themselves. The Central Mission Company Boy Health camp permits the maximum of sunlight and air, good food, rest, and play under interested and skilled women. The Social Service Department of the mission is erecting a new wing in brick to provide for the camps. Those who are. interested in this work are asked to send subscriptions to the Central Mission office as soon as possible for the purchase of foodstuffs, extra bedding, etc., essential to the camps.
