(From Ouk Own Correspondent ) MILTON, November 2. TOKOMAIRIRO PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH,

The annual congregational meeting of Tokomairiro Presbyterian Church was held in the church hall last night, the moderator (the Rev. A. MNeur) presiding. The session report was presented by the clerk (Mr D. M. Mawson). The report stated that the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper had been dispensed four times since the last annual meeting. Ten members had been added to the roll by profession of faith, and 15 by certificate. Nine members had left by disjunction certificates and seven had died. The roll number now totalled 395 members. Thirteen children had been baptised. A successful 14-days’ mission was conducted by the assembly evangelist (the Rev. J. Bissett). The triennial presbyterial visitation of the congregation wag made, and approval expressed by the presbytery commissioners of the faithful work of the minister and workers in all branches of the church’s activities. A comprehensive report of the active work amongst the youth of the parish was submitted by the Sunday school superintendent (Mr A, E. Stewart). The Deacons’ Court report submitted by the clerk (Mr G. H. Thomson) dealt with the management of the business side of church affairs generally. The receipts in the general account show a decrease of about £4O, but through careful management the debit balance on the congregational account had been reduced from £382 to £372. The P.W.M.U. and Ladies’ Guild reports were also submitted, and disclosed an encouraging spirit of activity in these branches of church work.

The balance sheet showed that £295 8s 4d had been raised by various branches of the church activities for home and foreign missionary work. The treasurer (Mr E. Moore) dealt with the figures disclosed in the balance sheet. He stated that the contributions from church members through the envelope system, special and ordinary collections totalled £B2B 16s 4d, a decrease of about £4O compared with the previous year. Maintenance costs had been reduced by about £3O. The sum of £284 0s Id had been raised for foreign, home, and the Maori missions.

The various reports were adopted, and the moderator referred to his spiritual work in the parish. The four retiring members' of the Deacons’ Court—Messrs W. Allison, T. Groundwater, N. Read, and W. Read, jun.—were re-elected, and Mr J. ’ P. Stewart (Moneymore) was also appointed to the Deacons’ Court. BOWLING.

Wilson, Kennard, M'Donnld, Price; Grealish, Gray, Ransome, Powley. RAINFALL. The official rain gauge recordings show that October was a comparatively wet month in Milton district. The total rainfall was 3.77 inches, and there were 19 rainy days. The heaviest fall (1.84 inch) occurred on October 7. The registrations at Milton Post Office for Tokotnairiro district during October, with the figures for the corresponding month last year in parentheses, were:— Births 2 (4), deaths 1 (3), Marriage 1 (nil). PERSONAL. Mr L. M. Scott, manager of the local branch of the Bank of New Zealand, has commenced his six weeks’ holiday leave. He is being relieved by Mr P. M. Clark, from the Dunedin office. On the, eve of his departure from Lovell’s Flat to take'up his residence in the Oamaru district, Mr Alexander Smith, of “Remote” farm, was entertained by the residents of Lovell’s Flat district, and was presented with an electric hot-water , kettle in recognition of his public services, particularly as member of the School Committee. MASONIC INSTALLATION. A large number of members of Dunedin and district sister Masonic lodges attended the installation of Mr C. J. Clery as first principal of Bruce Royal Arch Chapter and inveetitute of his officers for the ensuing 12 months. The ceremony was conducted by the District Grand Lodge officers. OBITUARY. Mrs William Tough, whose death occurred at the local hospital last night after a lengthy illness, was a well-known resident of Milton. Born at Coal Gully, near Waronui, 65 years ago, Mrs Tough (nee Mary* Reid) had resided in Milton district throughout the whole of her life. Her husband predeceased her some years ago, and she leaves a family of three sons. CRICKET. In the Northern Division shield matches on Saturday afternoon Milton A and B teams will meet; Milburn will play Clarendon relief camp team at Milburn; and Waihola will play Kaitangata B at Wailiola. P.W.M.U. BIRTHDAY. Tq mark the attainment of the twentyfirst birthday of the establishment of a branch of the P.W.M.U. at Lovells Flat, the members held a very successful birthday garden party in the manse grounds. Mrs Bates presided at the garden party, and associated with her were several past presidents of the Lovell’s Flat branch. A resume of the 21 years’ work of the branch was given by Mrs D. Grant, the first president, and an address was delivered by Mrs Porteous, late of India, where she and her husband (Dr Porteous) laboured as missionaries for several years. The twenty.-first birthday cake was cut and handed round. A sales stall was conducted by members of the Young Women’s Bible Class, who in the evening gave fin interesting missionary demonstration in the Coronation Hall.

During the 21 years of its existence the Lovell’s Plat P.W.M.U. has raised £750 for missionary enterprises, and over £7O through the medium of the Maori Mission Birthday League.
