THE “DIOPTIMISTS”
The members of the crew of H.M.S. Diomede, gave a variety concert in His Majesty’s Theatre last night before an audience which would no doubt have been considerably larger had the entertainment been given greater publicity. The proceeds are to be devoted to the Mayor's appeal for the Christmas treat for children of the unemployed. Lieutenant Arehdale, who introduced the performers, stated that this was the first concert given by the personnel of the Diomede since, ncr new commission. Unfortunately, he said, no programme had been printed. The concert proved quite an enjoyable affair, and it was early apparent that some of the performers were possessed of more than average talent. The programme was of a varied character, and embraced vocal numbers, instrumental selections, sketches and choruses. The audience were not slow to show their appreciation of the items presented, 4 and most of the performers had to respond to encores.
