ST. KILDA COUNCIL
FORTNIGHTLY MEETING The fortnightly meeting of the St. Kilda Borough Council was held last night, and was attended by the Deputy Mayor (Mr A. D. Edgar), and Crs H. H. Leary, J. A. Carman, W. G. Baird, E. W. Hunter, R. J. B. Griffiths, J. Robinson. N. D. Anderson, S. Hartley, and G. Glue. SCHOOL WATER SUPPLY, A letter was received from the Musselburgh School Committee in regard to the water supply to the school. It was stated that this continued to be a very vexed question with the committee, as it meant a special tax upon its financial resources. Despite the utmost supervision of ! the headmaster, the abnormal reading of the meter continued, so much so that the demand note received at the monthly meeting exceeded any amount hitherto rendered—loo, ooo gallons. The committee had exploited every avenue of detection, without result, and. it was suggested that if the, council had the meter replaced by one which had been tested, it would give the council an opportunity to investigate the one now in use. A letter from the headmaster of the Musselburgh School stated that the quantity of water registered by the meter as having been used was absurd. The council decided to ask the committee to pay the amount, and that the matter of any concession could be considered after the next reading of the meter. CORRESPONDENCE. A letter was received from the Ocean Beach Domain Board asking for payment of the council’s contribution to the board for the current year amounting to £llO 5s 3d, in accordance with the provisions of the Public Domain Act, 1920. Beattie) was granted further leave of absence for one month on account of illness.
