NEW GOLF RULES

UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED OPERATING FROM JANUARY. LONDON, September 27. (Received Sept. 27, at 8.30 p.m.) The Royal and Ancient Golf Club unanimously approved the revised golf rules, which will operate from January 1. They w r ero drafted after consultation with the United States and the Dominions. There are no drastic changes the alterations being chiefly aimed at making the wording of the present rules clearer, notably the flagstick rule for match play, in which now either party is entitled to remove the flag. A more generous- lifting of loose impediment is also allowed and certain rules have been regrouped, while another important adjustment enables special rules for match play to be absorbed by the general rules. . The chairman of the Championship Committee (Mr W. N. Boase) reported that the committee was unable to reach a decision regarding amateur status, which is still under consideration.
