THE KUROW DISTRICT

(From Our Own Correspondent.) KUROW. September 26. DOUGLAS CREDIT. Mr S. Webster occupied the chair at a lecture bn the " Douglas Credit System,” delivered in the Y.M.C.A. Hall, Waitaki Hydro, by Mr F. Poole, or Oamaru. Mr Poole detailed the origin of the* present monetary system and went on to show how inadequate it was. He then explained the principles of the Douglas system, detailing at length the A plus B theorem, showing a simple way of payment of overseas debts. The movement, he said, waa gaining ground in North Otago, and explained the great strides it had made in the Au6kland district, being sponsored there by the local branch of the Farmers’ Union. At the conclusion of his address Mr Poole answered questions to the satisfaction of his audience, after which he was accorded a vote of thanks, and was requested to deliver a further lecture at a later date. KUROW BATHS. A meeting convened by the Rev. A. H. Nordmeyer, Dr D. G. McMillan, and Mr A. McR. Davidson was held in the Munro Hall, Kurow, on Monday evening to decide upon the size of the proposed public baths, and also to receive suggestions and ascertain what public support would be forthcoming. It was decided that the size of the baths should be 75 feet by SO feet, and that a club be formed to assist in raising funds for the project. Mr G. W. Cogger was appointed provisional secretary. HOCKEY DANCE. The Huia (Kurow) Ladies’ Hockey Club held a very successful and weilpatronised dance in the Hakatararaea Hall. Mr T. Corrigal carried out the duties of M.C., and the dance music was supplied by Miss S. Munro’s Orchestra. A Monte Carlo waltz wag won by Mrs; W. Booth and Mr L. Murphy. PERSONAL. The many friends of Mr W. C. Grant, Waitaki Hydro, will be pleased to hear that he has sufficiently recovered from his illness to return to his home. Mr J. Falconer, Waitaki Hydro, has left to spend a holiday at Dunback.
