SWIMMING

NEW ZEALAND RECORDS BROKEN.

Two successful attempts on existing records were made in the Municipal Baths .on Monday evening by Reg. Geddes, the New Zealand intermediate 100 yards breaststroke champion, and Sydney Jarvis, the speedy young 100 and 220 yards national junior free style champion.

Geddes recently set up new figures for the 100 yards breaststroke, and on Monday night, swimming with his characteristic dash, he covered the distance in 73 3-osec, beating his own record of 73 4-ssec by l-sth of a second. As he will will join the senior grade on October 1, he will make an attempt tomorrow to lower these figures still further.

Jarvis had a tilt at the 50 yards junior boys’ record of 27 2-ssec, set up by Noel Crump two years ago, and, swimming unpaced, he cut out the distance in the remarkably fast time of 26 4-ssec. His junior status expires on October 1, and to-morrow night he will make an attempt to better these figures.
