AIR MAIL CONTRACTS

MINIMUM SPEEDS SPECIFIED REGARDED AS TOO.LOW. LONDON, September 22. Air-commander Chamier, while appreciating the stringent provision _ in the tenders against foreign participation, criticises the relatively low minimum epeeds specified in the air mail contracts. He regrets that no preference is expressed in the tenders for seaplanes or flying boats between Singapore and Darwin, which would reduce the risks and dangers of tropical conditions and forced descents to the sea. He instances the Bremen's mail plane's landing in the Channel last night as an example of this kind of thing. LONDON TO RANGOON. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, September 22. (Received Sept. 24, at 5.5 p.m.) The first air mail from London to Rangoon will leave Croydon to-morrow, and is scheduled to reach Burma on October 1. After flying over the existing Indian route via Cairo, Bagdad, and Karachi to Calcutta, the mails for Burma will be flown for the flrßt time over the new 700 miles section via Akyab to Rangoon. The new section forms another link in Imperial Airways' projected 10,000 miles England to Australia air mail route. The first air mail from Rangoon to London is due to leave Rangoon on October 2, arriving at Croydon on October 10. It is hoped that the Ran-goon-Singapore section of the Australian route will be opened for traffic before Christmas.
