A RECORD OF SERVICE
MR W. T. BRUNDELL’S RETIREMENT. With the retirement last week of Mr W. T. Bnindeil from the managership of the Nelson branch of Messrs Charles Begg and Co., 46 years of loyal service to the firm was brought to a close. Mr Brundell, who some years ago was prominent in local musical circles, joined the Dunedin branch of the firm in 1887 as an apprentice to the piano-tuning trade, and gradually rose to the position of head tuner, which he occupied until 1913, when he was transferred to Nelson. _ A keen bandsman, he was for some time a member of the Dunedin Garrison Band, and later became conductor of the Citizens’ Band. He was also a member of the Dunedin Orchestral. Philharmonic, and Choral Societies, and for some years he conducted the St. Kilda Anglican Church Choir. Mr Brundell was also well known in sporting circles locally, having been a member of the North End Boating Club, and a foundation member of the St. Kilda Bowling Club, in which he played with conspicuous success in the club championships. On taking up his residence in Nelson, Mr Brundell maintained his interest in musical and sporting matters, and became an enthusiastic member of the Nelson Harmonic and Operatic Societies, as well as organist to the Southern Star Lodge. He is a past president and secretary of the Matai Bowling Club, and a member of the present committee of the club. He is also a past president and a life member of the 2ZR Radio Club. On the eve of his retirement Mr Brundell was met by the staff of the branch, who made him a presentation as a marl: of the esteem in which they had held him.
