WELLINGTON RAILWAY STATION
CALLING OF TENDERS EXTENSION OF TIME GRANTED. (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, September 22. Mr H. H. Sterling, chairman of the Government Railways Board, to-day announced that after consultation with the Prime Minister (Mr G. W. Forbes) it had been decided to extend the time for receiving tenders for the erection of the new station at Wellington for another ten days. The tenders would now close on October 5. This was being done to give New Zealand manufacturers every opportunity to make contact with prospective tenderers, and if necessary arrange for alternative prices to be quoted for imported and New Zealand materials. “It is believed,” said Mr Sterling, “ that the extension will be of material assistance to New Zealand manufacturers and will enable fuller information to be given so that the policy of the board and the Government as already announced may be applied to the contract in the light of the fullest information obtainable.”
