DREAD PLAGUES

BUBONIC AND PNEUMONIC

RAGING IN CHINESE AREAS,

SHANGHAI, September 20,

The whole of Manchukuo is now united in three lines of defence against the southward sweep of the dread bubonic and pneumonic plagues which are at present raging in North Supingkai, claiming hundreds of lives. It is estimated that 600 people have succumbed during the last fortnight. Hundreds are also reported dying of the scourge in the Tungliao districts and other affected areas in Taonan.

The Chinese Eastern Railway authorities have established quarantine stations at Tsitsihar and other important stations for passengers travelling via Siberia. With the approach of the cold weather the situation becomes worse. River traffic may be suspended.
