BOWLING

OTAGO LADIES’ ASSOCIATION The annual report of the Otago Ladies’ Bowling Association for the year ended July 31 states: — ■' The year was commenced with a credit balance of £1 16s 3d and concluded with a credit of £26 5s 4d. There are now 24 clubs affiliated with a total membership of 445. There were 14 entries in the interclub competition, _ the Stuart Banner being won by Dunedin Club. Reference is made in the report to the various tournaments held during the year and also the interprovincial and other games. It goes on to state that there were 15 competitors in the Champion, of Champions’ contest, which was won by Mrs Seddon (St. Clair), with Mrs Higginson (St. Kilda) runner-up. A social evening was held to celebrate the seventh anniversary of the formation of the association, and at this function the trophies and prizes won during the season were presented. During the early part of the season the green played very well, but later, with continued dry weather and no water available, it began to go off a little. At the annual meeting it was decided to leave the care of the green in the hands of Mr Tannock and his assistant, Mr Knox, and this arrangement has proved very satisfactory. After due consideration, the executive came to the conclusion that it would be wise to ask the City Council for another ladies’ green immediately adjoining the present green,. The application was favourably considered by the council, which agreed to _ lay- down the green provided the association paid all the expenses for cartage, material, etc. Work at the new green is now proceeding. Weekly card evenings proved very popular, and a silver cup for the winner of most games was won by Mrs J. J. Read (Anderson’s Bay).
