ANNUAL FIXTURE OPENED BIG RACE TO RANELAGH. (Per United Press Association.) TIMARU, September 21. There was a large attendance on the opening day of the Geraldine Racing Club’s spring meeting, when the weather was fine, and the track in good order. The totalisator handled £5875 10s, against £7012 10s last year. C. Eastwood the rider of Royal Amphora, was suspended till October 1 for striking G. Humphries, the rider of Manetho, with his whip after passing the post in the Raukapuka Handicap. Humphries was cautioned for coming in too quickly at the far turn and causing Dracula to drop back.
