(From Opr Own Correspondent.) BALCLUTHA, September 21. BOROUGH COUNCIL VACANCY. As a result of the resignation of Cr Simon Wright from the Balclutha Borough Council, a vacancy has occurred, and when nominations closed yesterday two names were forward—Messrs A. E. Russell and William Currie. PERSONAL. Mr T. R. Mackay, who died at Timaru early yesterday morning, was an old resident of Balclutha. About 30 years ago he was associated with the late My James Wilson in the auctioneering firm of Wilson and Mackay. Mr Mackay was also a member of the Borough Council for some time and was associated with most local public affairs. He also played football, and was a lieutenant in the Clutha Mounted Rifle Corps. When the firm of Wilson and Mackay was dissolved, Mr Mackay acted as agent for Messrs Donald Reid and Co. in Balclutha, and afterwards spent a year at Clifton Station, Waiwera. Leaving Clifton, he went to Timaru as agent for Messrs Dalgety and Co., and from there went to Wanganui as representative of the same firm. He came back to Timaru as agent for the National Mortgage and Agency Company. Some time ago he met with a motor car accident, and since then he had not enjoyed good health. Mr Mackay was married to Miss Smith, a niece of the late Messrs W. and T. Telford, of Clifton and Otanomomo, and was a brother-in-law of Mr T. M. Mackay, of Rosebank,,Balclutha. He leaves a widow and family of three. ' . . Dr L. For the next seven months he will act as locum tenens for Dr Radcliffe, who is now on his way to England.
