PALMERSTON NOTES
(From Our Own Correspondent.) PALMERSTON, Septmcber 21. FOOTBALLERS’ BALL. The Palmerston Football Club held its annual ball in the Town Hall last night, and the function proved very successful, over 170 couples being present. All the Eastern District football clubs w r ere represented, and dancers were present as well from further afield. Excellent music was supplied by the Sports Dance Band (Dunedin). Mr Motu Ellison (Karitane) played the extras. The lucky spot waltz was won by Miss M. Dalgleish and Mr John Peddie. Messrs P. O'Reilly, L. M'Gregor, A. Parkwill, and J. T. Logie were the M.C.’s. During the evening the president of the Eastern District Rugby • Football Subunion (Mr R. MTutosh) presented the Senior Grade Challenge Shield and the Junior Grade Shield, both won this year by Palmerston teams. Mr MTntosh complimented the senior team on winning the shield again this year and also on the number of the club’s players selected for representative games. Mr A. Parkhill (captain) suitably responded, congratulating Shag Point on winning the banner. Prsenting the Junior Grade Shield, Mr MTntosh complimented the team on its high standard of play. Mr L. M'Gregor (captain) replied. FISHING. The whitebait season on the Shag River has not, so far, been a successful one, catches having been small. The river is low and somewhat slimy, and prospects for the opening of the trout-fishing season on. October 1 are not bright. After the exceptionally dry season last year the river needs a, good clean out, which the winter rains have failed to effect.
