SOUTH ISLAND TEAM SELECTORS TO ACT AS MANAGERS (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, September 20. The statement was made at the meeting of the Management Committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union that no manager had been appointed for the South Island team to play the North lb-land at Wellington on Saturday, This led to some members expressing concern. There had always been laxity in getting the South Island team on to the field, said Mr J. Moloney. The president (Mr A. E. M‘Phai!) closed the discussion when be remarked that the South Island selectors (Messrs P. Harvey and A. Adams) would be travelling with the team. “We cun safely leave it to them,” he said. WAIKATO BEATS WANGANUI (Per United Press Association.) HAMILTON, September 20. In a hard and fast game in which Waikato had margin on the attack throughout Waikato defeated Wanganui by 34 points to 19. In the first half the visitors with a strong wind favouring them held Waikato for the greater part, the score at the interval being: Waikato 15, Wanganui 8. Waikato’s heavy pack and superiority in the back division told in the sccoifd spell.
