SUPPLY OF WHEAT

MEASURES FOR REGULATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETS. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, September 18. (Received Sept. 19, at 5.5 p.m.) Under the chairmanship of the United States Ambassador Mr Robert Bingham, the first meeting of the Wheat Advisory Committee was held in London to-day. The committee was set up to consider measures for adjusting the supply of wheat to the effective world demand, eliminating abnormal surpluses, and bringing about a rise and stabilisation, of prices. Exporting countries represented on the committee are the United States, Australia, Canada, the Argentine, four Damibian States (Hungary, Bulgaria, Jugoslavia and Rumania) and Russia. The importing countries are Britain, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Scandinavia. The committee’s duties are primarily advisory, and the main purpose is to review the way in which the agreements reached last month are functioning. Members selected as secretary Mr A, Cairns, who was formerly chief statistician of the Canadian wheat pools and has recently been in charge of the grain information service under the Empire Marketing Board, The committee adjourned until to-morrow.
