CLYDE NOTES
(From Oue Own Correspondent.) CLYDE, September 18. FOOTBALL. The local team withstood its second challenge for the possession of the White Horse Cup. A fast and interesting game was played against .Matakanui last Saturday, the scores being Clyde 11 points, Matakanui 3 points. Interest is now centred upon the match next Saturday when Cromwell will meet Clyde in a similar contest. A strong side has developed for Clyde and players are in good form. The Cromwell team, having won the banner of the Vincent Rugby Sub-union, is also a strong combination, so the match should be one of the best contests of the season. CRICKET CLUB. A meeting was held last week under the chairmanship of Mr F. R. Bould. to discuss a proposal to form a cricket club. This was agreed to and Mr B. M'Avoy was appointed secretary. CLYDE TOWN TRUST. The monthly meeting of the Clyde Town Trust took place this evening, Mr S. A. Stevens occupying the chair. The chairman explained the position about the clashing of two appointments at the Town Hall recently. On a report being received concerning the condition of the hall roofing it was decided that repairs should be effected without delay. The unsafe condition of a large pine tree having been pointed out it was decided to make this available to some unemployed person for firewood. An application for the use of the Town Hall on New Year’s night by a travelling concert party w r as granted. _ Correspondence was received from the secretary of the Merrymakers’ Band expressing regret at rough usage of the hall piano. The secretary of Foresters’ Lodge wrote regarding rentals, and it was decided to suggest the existing agreement remain, allowing the annual social as a free night. The Vincent County Council wrote iegarding the constitution stating that the council would agree provided amendments set out were accepted by the trust.— Lengthy consideration was given to the question, and it was decided to reply that the trust could not agree to the deletions and to ask the council to receive a deputation. The treasurer’s statement showed income to be £6 ISs Cd, payments £8 14s fid, debit balance £27 I9s 2d. Accounts passed for payment amounted to 17s 4d. The trust considered the proposal for the purchase of a new piano or renovate the present instrument. In view of an independent report on the piano, it was finally agreed to proceed with the purchase of the new instrument. The offer of miners to plant willow and poplar trees on the river bank was referred to the County Council with a recommendation that this should be done.
